Snapchat Planets – Order and Meaning Explained 

For the last couple of months, there is one thing that has been trending about Snapchat and its the Solar System feature. The interesting thing about this feature is that while it’s very popular most do not even know what it even is. 

So, for those who do not know what Snapchat Planets are, I have prepared this guide covering every single detail

In our childhood, we learned about the solar system, and that is what the Snapchat new feature is. But what it means, how it benefits us, and how to use it still is a mystery, which is why stick to this article – I’m going to explain every single thing. 

Imagine you are the Sun and your friends are the planets. Similar to how Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun in our solar system, and In the same way if in Snapchat Plus, you are Mercury in your friend’s profile, it will mean that your friend chats with you the most. In an easy way, it basically means your friend chats and has the longest streak with you. 

In Snapchat, you will be assigned a Bitmoji based on how frequently you interact with your friends. It is similar to how planets in our solar system are positioned at different distances. 

Note: Your planet position can differ from friend to friend, such as in one friend’s profile, you may be Mercury, and in another’s Mars. 

Just as there are 8 planets in our solar system, same as in Snapchat there are 8 planets that represent your top 8 best friends. The ranking can always change as your relationship evolves with your friends. 

In the shortest way possible, the Snapchat Planets system represents you as a planet in your friend’s profile based on streaks and interactions and this feature helps you also know your number 1 BFF. While having a conversation on Snapchat someone may use slang such as “WYF,” learn what WYF means.

Note: It is not a numerical ranking, it only shows your position, and only you can see your position.

The main goal behind Snapchat Planets is to give users motivation to interact with each other way more and let them know what position they are in. For example, if your position is 7 with your BFF, you will strive to increase it. 

Snapchat Solar System is a unique way to understand friendship, and Snapchat did a great job because the feedback on this feature has been great. 

The Snapchat Planets Solar System order and the name are the same as how our real solar system is: 

Snapchat Planet System ranks friends based on interactions made. For you to enjoy this feature you must have a Snapchat Plus subscription. But Snapchat Planet Order may seem confusing to you, and not be sure how the math works. So, here is a little example for you:

Imagine you have 5 friends: Alex, Amna, Aria, Aron, and Anthony. Now with them, you had this much interaction: 

• Alex, you shared Snaps 9000, and Chats 120. 
• Amna Snaps Shared 8000, Chats 95.
• Aria Snaps Shared 6000, Chats 50. 
• Aron Snaps Shared 4500, Chats 37.
• Anthonty Snap Shared 3700, Chats 23.

The best thing about Snapchat Planet feature is checking your position is really simple. They did not change the interface or make steps complicated, and I love this feature of Snapchat Plus. Simply, follow the steps below to check your Snapchat Planet Position: 

• Launch the Snapchat app.
• Go to your friend list. 
• Tap on your friend’s Snapchat profile.
• Now, if you see a bet friend badge with a golden ring, it means you are in the top eight planet list of each other, and if you see there is no golden ring it means you are in their top eight but they are not in your top eight. 
• Tap on the best friend badge, and the pop-up will appear with your Planet position, and if for example, you are Mars, it means you are their 4th closest BFF. 

Increasing your Snapchat Planet ranking is nothing to worry about because it can just be a few minutes of your day. The Planet system of Snapchat is based on interactions between the user and their friend. The more you interact the highest your ranking will be, and to simply increase your ranking you can follow these two tips:

Send Regular Snaps

The best method to get the highest planet ranking is sending snaps regularly. Just select the friend you are in whose Solar System you want to rank higher and start regularly sending them snaps and making sure the streak doesn’t break. 

Regular Chatting

The more you interact the higher your ranking will be and the second tip that you can follow is to chat with your friends as much and as regularly as you can. 

It has been a while since the Snapchat Planets feature was released, at current point more than a year. The majority of the users love this system but there have been some controversies and criticism on the feature. 

As per recent research, some users have shared their feelings that they feel sad and uncomfortable after knowing their ranking or if they are not even ranked on their BFF list. The criticism about the feature is mostly because seeing position may lead to feelings of exclusion or jealousy. 

The system can also create pressure on users to maintain the ranking with their BFF because no one would want to lose the #1 Best Friend planet spot. 

However, in most cases knowing where you are ranked in your friend list is a good thing becuase it notifies you where you rank in someone’s social life. The Snap Planets isn’t the kind of feature to feel sad over it, because we all know it is not a numerical ranking. Because it’s social media possibilities can be endless why someone is ranked higher or lower, so don’t think too much about the feature and keep your mind clear. 

Like some time ago, now Snapchat Planet system is not enabled by default so after you buy the Snapchat Plus subscription, you have to manually enable it. Below, you can follow the steps I mentioned with images to enable the Snapchat solar system: 

• Open the Snapchat Application.
• In the upper left corner, tap on your profile avatar. 
• Just below your profile name or bio, tap on “Snapchat+.”
• From the long list of options, scroll just a little bit down and tap “Solar System.”
• Now, in the “Solar System,” option there will be a toggle option; turn it on. 
• A confirmation pop-up will appear, tap “Okay.”

Note: You can use this same method to disable the Solar system. 

After enabling the Snapchat Solar System, if you are facing any issues personally such as stress, or can’t find the option to disable it again; simply follow the steps below: 

• Open Snapchat.
• Tap on your profile avatar. 
• Just below your profile name or bio, tap on “Snapchat+.”
• From the list of options, scroll down and tap “Solar System.”
• Now, in the “Solar System,” option there will be a toggle option; tap on it. . 
• A confirmation pop-up will appear, tap “Okay” to hide the Solar System.

In July 2022, Snapchat+ was first introduced, and it is a premium subscription service that offers exclusive features on the platform. The price of Snapchat+ is just $3.99 and comes with many exclusive features that you can enjoy such as:

Buying a Snapchat+ subscription is simple, but if you are looking for a way to get Snapchat Planet access for free unfortunately there is no such way. To get the Solar System feature unlocked, you must buy Snapchat+, and for that, you can follow the steps I have given below: 

• Open your Snapchat+ application.
• On the upper left corner tap on your profile. 
• Now, you will have a card with a Snapchat+ option; tap it.
• You will have the option to buy three different plans; 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year. 
• Select the plan you would like to purchase, and if it’s your first time you will also get a free trial. 
• Enter your payment details, and confirm.
• After making the payment, close and re-open the app and you will get all your Snapchat+ features. 

The Snapchat free trial option lasts for 7 days, so you can make up your mind in that time, whether you should continue or not. If you cancel below 7 days the money will be refunded. 

Note: Keep in mind that Solar System is now not a default feature of Snapchat+ that is automatically turned on. So, if you do not see planets worry, just go to your Snapchat+ settings and manually turn it on.
